It wasn’t. A breakdown in the lawn sprinkler caused among the sprinklers in the kids’s department to go off.
” We probably had the sprinkler running about 30-40 minutes prior to the water was switched off,” Bailey stated. “So, needless to state it did some damage to a few of our books.”
Around noon Wednesday, the count was at 2540 books and Bailey said it may be close to 3000 when every book has actually gone through stock. The staff said at one point there was more than an inch of water going through this location and back to a few of the offices.
” This is the 2nd day we came that it was closed and we didn’t know,” said Jessy Smith. “And she’s cried both times since she loves the library.”
Smith stated her household comes here typically, because her kids are homeschooled and the library is a huge part of their curriculum.
” They even have a play area. The other libraries I’ve been to don’t have that. It’s actually nice.”
” The web is our interaction with our family members and with news and with weather and we can come up here and search for details on that we can’t do at our home,” said a Wichita Falls citizen. “So, it resembles an outlet for us and we show up here pretty routinely. It’s an excellent service they are doing for the community.”
Bailey and other staffers at the library have been examining each book, looking for any signs of rippling and mold.
She said she’s happy the water didn’t spread into the server room. And didn’t get to other parts of the library where the books aren’t under as much cover.
” The kids’s department is among heaviest used locations,” stated Bailey. “Kids still like that tactile touch of a book. A lot of them can’t check out to themselves, so the moms and dads will come and read and examine out a book and check out to them.”
And bailey said changing the city’s supply will be a pricey feat. Because each book expense about $30 and when you think about how many were damaged by one sprinkler malfunction, it might cost near $90,000 to restock these shelves.
